The son of Nathan & Mary Alice (Harter) Wilcox, Richard was born on May 4, 1925 in near Woolstock, Iowa. Growing up, Richard worked on the farm and attended school through the eighth grade. In 1943 he entered the United States Navy, as a Navy Seabee, spending several years overseas. In January of 1962 he retired from the Navy on a disability. In September of 1967 he was united in marriage to Minnie May Lindsay. Following 17 beautiful years of marriage, Richard lost his wife to cancer in 1984. In January of 1992 he came back to Colfax to help take care of his sister and stayed until his death on Friday.


Dick received Jesus Christ as his personal savior and after returning to Colfax he began attending the First Baptist Church and soon became a member. Dick enjoyed being active at the church as an usher, a greeter as well as the AWANA program. Dick was a very giving person. He enjoyed making corner shelves and doll cradles and giving them away


Survivors include a sister-in-law, Osie Wilcox of Indianola, several nieces, including Mary Ann Ray, Marcella Warner and Barbara Ross, and nephews as well as other family members and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, and wife, two sisters, Clara Wade and Marcella Bauman and two brothers, Harold and Kenneth.
Richard Glen Wilcox, age 80 of Colfax, died Friday, December 9, 2005 at the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Colfax. Burial will be at the Colfax Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Wilcox will be held on Monday, December 12, 2005 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
