Gladys Elizabeth Sterner, 84, of 577 E. Main St., Grove City, died at 7:58 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 1997, at the United Community Hospital.

Born May 25, 1912, in Knox, she was a daughter of Isaac and Carrie Mae Bell Clover.

She was married to Samuel J. Sterner Jr. on Oct. 1, 1932. He died March 31, 1995.

Mrs. Sterner was a member of the American Legion Post #852 Auxiliary and a former member of the Deer Hunters Auxiliary, both of Harrisville.

She was employed as a housekeeper at the former Grove City Hospital.

She was a Protestant.

Mrs. Sterner, a former resident of Highland Avenue, was a homemaker.

Survivors include five children, Mrs. Chester W. "Carolyn" Makepeace of Grove City, Delores Strong of Sligo, Sandy Sterner of Long Beach, Calif., Kenneth Sterner of Grove City and Ray Sterner of Grass Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Chauncey "Julia" Frederick of Vacaville, Calif. and Mrs. George "Geraldine" Kelly of Grove City; two brothers, Clyde Clover of Knox and Ralph Clover of Parker; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Donald, Dale C. and Leslie Sterner; two daughters, Geraldine Barnes and Janet A. Sterner; a brother, Orrin Clover and a sister, Louise Clover.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Grove City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Charles Jack of Knox United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will be in Prairie Cemetery in Harrisville.
