Mr. Sterner, who had resided in Grove City since 1988, had lived at Orchard Manor for one week. He formerly resided in Ontario, Calif.
Born June 9, 1908, in Franklin, he was a son of Samuel Joseph Sterner Sr. and Alice Terrill Sterner.
Mr. Sterner was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.
He formerly was employed as a baker at the former Ideal Bakery in Grove City. He retired as a baker in California in 1973.
Mr. Sterner was a Protestant.
He was married Oct. 1, 1932, to Gladys Elizabeth Clover, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Chester (Carolyn) Makepeace of Grove City, Delores Strong of Sligo and Sandy Sterner of Long Beach, Calif.; three sons, Kenneth Sterner of Grove City, Ray Sterner of Grass Valley, Calif., and Leslie Sterner of Dillsburg; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
He also is survived by a brother, John Sterner of Franklin.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sterner was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Sterner and Dale C. Sterner; two daughters, Geraldine Barnes and Janet A. Sterner; and two brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Charles Jack, pastor of the Knox United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in the Prairie Cemetery in Harrisville.
