Louvega Ann (Lou Vergie) Jackson (1864–1901)

CHILDREN:
1. Anna Andrews

2. William Jackson Andrews (12/1883 TN – 7/4/1965 Limestone, Alabama). Interestingly, on October 22, 1876 in Marshall County, Tennessee a W. J. Andrews married Lizzie E. Cunningham (1850–1880), but this is obviously not the same WJ Andrews. Samuel Low Tucker said that, "The last time W. J. was heard of he was in the State of Arizona. His brother, J. R. Andrews, said that he received letters from W. J. every few years always from some different part of the United States."

3. John Reginald Andrews (8/29/1886 Lewisburg, TN – 7/2/1967 Marshall County, TN). On May 28, 1911 in Marshall County, Tennessee he married Josephine "Josie May" Wilson (1890–1979) and they had the following children: Margaret Elizabeth Andrews (1912–1989) and John Reginald Andrews Jr. (1916–1976).

4. James Grover Andrews (7/3/1888 Lewisburg, TN – 5/27/1964 Phoenix, AZ). In the 1920 census, he is a packer in the fruit industry in Phoenix, Arizona, single and a lodger, and in the 1940 census he is 51 years old, married with an elementary school education working as a fruit packer, and his wife is listed as Virgie L. (Voncile), age 43, born in Texas, working as a fruit grader, and his 15 year old daughter Mary L. Andrews is listed as born in Brawley, Imperial County, Californai.

5. Margaret Tennessee Andrews (7/1890 Tennessee – 1930 Dade County, Florida). On 14 Dec 1923 in Calhoun, Alabama, she married Louis Babb CANNON ((1893–1975). They had a son, a medical doctor, Col. Joe Louis Cannon (1/27/1929 Florida - 2/27/2100 Memphis, TN). His son Joe Louis Cannon, Jr. , predeceased him, and there is a unique bench honoring Joe Cannon Jr. to the immediate right of the south entrance gate into the Memorial Park Cemetery. This is a beautiful carved bench placed under a shade tree in a circular landscaped area. Text on plaque at the backrest of the bench: In Memory of Joe Cannon, Jr., Dr. Joe & Nell Cannon.

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette-April 20, 2014
Jennifer Allen Lee and Mark Daniel Grinnan exchanged marriage vows at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 12. The bride is the daughter of Leslie and Mark Lee. Her grandparents are Nell and the late Dr. Joe Cannon of Memphis and Virginia and the late Henry Lee of McComb, Miss. The bride has a BA degree in Art History from SMU and an MA in Fine Arts from Sotheby's Institute, New York and the groom has a BA with honors in accounting from SMU and is an investment banking associate with Raymond James Financial, Inc.

6. Elmer D Andrews (1/3/1903 TN – 3/3/1981 Lewisburg, TN). On 10 Jun 1930 in Marshall County, he married Annie Bell Hardison (9/7/1909 TN – 6/9/1989 Murfreesboro, TN) and they had two daughters, one of who was Mary Grace Andrews Marsh (1/6/1932 Hardison Mill, Marshall County, TN - 3/20/2004 Huntsville, Alabama).

Sara Josephine Andrews: "When Virginia died young, he married Hortie or Hattie (as family pronounced it). James and Virginia were parents of John, Margaret and others. ..Vergie and Jimmy Andrews were parents of John, Will Jackson, Margaret and James Andrews."

In another place Sara says: "Andrews, Jimmy - Jack, John, James, Margaret."

MARTHA ANDREWS THOMPSON INTERVIEW:
Jimmy was Nicholas Andrews’ brother.
There’s Cora Gray right there.
She [this woman who wrote Martha for family history] called Peggy, David’s daughter. She lives in Murfreesboro. Her father was Elmer Douglas Andrews, son of Jimmy. Peggy told her to write me.
J.D. Andrews is Jimmy Andrews.

INTERVIEW WITH William Lafayette Andrews, Jr.:

Son John R. Andrews, Jr. was with the fire department or sheriff's department for awhile. His father was in the plumbing business. Eddie Derryberry's father was too.

John R. Andrews, Sr. and this is John R., Jr. The one my age is John R., Jr. They were probably one of Nicholas' brothers. John R., Jr. and I went to school together at Price-Webb for awhile and he worked for the fire department. Price-Webb was the only time I went to school over here. I remember walking to school, we started throwing rocks at something. One of the rocks skipped off something and hit one of us. I'm not sure whether it was I or John R. At the time I was staying up at the Staceys. I guess they were related some way. Margaret Stacey. Those houses are all gone now. My mother was up there visiting I guess. We were walking home together. It hit me and I started bleeding and John R. ran home afraid he'd be in trouble.

Margaret Stacey's brother became pretty wealthy. He lived up in Kentucky. He'd give us a lot of money for the cemetery [Andrews-Liggett]. All of his family is buried up there [Ligette-Andrews] and we never could get another road up there. His parents are…

WLA – Margaret Cannon's son was in law school with me. He was interested in aviation law. He graduated after I did. And that's Elizabeth Derryberry's [Eddy Derryberry's mother] and John R. Andrews; that's the one I played with, and that's her children. She had 4 children.

Margaret Andrews (Cannon):

William L. Andrews, Jr. called her "Cousin Jose May." She had several children, one of whom was J. R. [actually, it appears that J.R. Andrews was her brother, John R. Andrews, Sr's son rather than Margaret's son] William L. Andrews and John R. were close in age and one time while they were walking home from school together in Lewisburg, they were throwing rocks at each other and one went astray and hit John R. and he started crying a little bit. They were close in age, but John'R.'s sister Elizabeth was a little older. Ross Beckham built the septic tank at William L. Andrews' farm in 1950 or so, someone from Murphreesboro come out to help with the septic tank and he had dated Elizabeth. When William L. Andrews was in law school, another boy in law school at Tennessee was a member of their family. He was going into aviation law in Knoxville.

Margaret Stacy is somehow related to William L. Andrews.

The last time W. J. was heard of he was in the State of Arizona. His brother, J. R. Andrews, said that he received letters from W. J. every few years always from some different part of the United States.

There is a W.J.Andrews buried near William Varney Andrews whose wife Lizzie E. Cunningham was born September 28, 1850.

Dear Mrs. Thompson,

I am trying to compile a Family tree on the Andrews Family.

Peggy Harris Barnes, daughter of David Andrews harris and Evelyn Ruth Hill Harris, advised me to write you, as she thinks you are very knowledgeable of the information i need.

My father was Elmer Douglas Andrews, son of J. D. (Jimmy) Andrews. Mary Gordon's bro.

My information goes back as far as Jones Andrews, born 11-9-1791, died 9-26-1860. They had 11 children, one of which was my Great Grandfather, William Varney Andrews, born 11-1-1824, died 2-28-1901, married Tennessee Tucker, born 7-16-1827, died 2-27-1909. They had 6 children, J.D. Jimmy, Nicholas Green, Cora, George, Ada P. (twins written above George, but Cora and Ada P. both underlined, so Cora and Ada are probably the twins) and Anna McDora.

I need information on Cora. Her date of birth, death, marriage, where buried and what she died of. Also the same on any and all of her decendents.

I will be happy to receive any additional information you can share with me, or to share any I have with you.

I will certainly be grateful to hear from you.

Thank you,

Glendol Barnes
