OBITUARY OF SAMUEL
BUCHANAN WHEELER

Died at his home near Carnforth Wednesday April 29, 1896 of abscess of the lungs. Samuel B Wheeler aged 57 years 9 months and 26 days. Deceased was born in Maryland August 3, 1838. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary J Ports March 22, 1860. By this union14 children were born all of whom survive him except one and with the widowed mother mourn the loss of one who was always kind and affectionate in life. A true husband and father. Mr Wheeler was converted to Christ at the age of fifteen and during the years that have followed he has lived a consistent Christian life being a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church at the time of his death. He was a good citizen a kind neighbor and friend and was respected by all who knew him. The funeral was held at his late residence Saturday afternoon a 1 o'clock conducted by Rev Montgomery of Victor. The text for the sermon was selected by Mr Wheeler himself and was taken from the words of Paul: "I have fought a good fight I have finished my course I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown which the righteous judge giveth and not to me only but to all those that love his appearing." Rev Montgomery's remarks were practical pointed and sympathetic. The large attendance at the funeral was a fitting tribute to the memory of the deceased. The remains were tenderly laid away in the IOOF Cemetery to await the resurection morn. The children from a distance in attendance at the funeral were: Mr and Mrs Charles Howard, Livingston, MT; Mr and Mrs Warren Wheeler, Belle Plaine, IA; Mr Allen T Wheeler, Bromfield, NE; Mr David Wheeler, Muchakinock; Mrs Elmer H Courtney, Grinnell, IA; Mr and Mrs N Wheeler, Tioga IA; Mrs Ola Jennings, Montpelier, ID; And his brother Mr Thomas G Wheeler, Des Moines, IA.
