Merrill, Iowa - John Roetman, 79, of Merrill died Saturday at a Le Mars nursing home after an extended illness.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. John's American Lutheran Church in Merrill. The Rev. Harold Norheim will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery at Merrill. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. today at Johnson-Luken Funeral Home in Le Mars. Friends wishing to meet with the family may do so from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Roetman was born June 23, 1903, in the Netherlands. He came to the United States in 1909 [sic] and lived in the Matlock, Iowa, area. He married Henrietta Visser Feb. 24, 1935 [sic], at Canton, S.D,

They moved to the Le Mars vicinity in 1947. He was a retired baker and a member of St. John's American Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, DeWayne of Gowrie and Albert of Hospers; a brother, Gerrit of Sanborn; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
