He was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Collyer, the son of Nicholas A. and Catherine Riedel Braun.
A resident of Garden City since 1932, also living in Holcomb, he was a farmer. He belonged to St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. He was a member of Knights of Columbus No. 2795 and Eagles Lodge, both in Garden City.
In April 1940, he married Elizabeth Witman in Garden City. She died in April 1956.
He later married Vivian Rhodes on Oct. 19, 1961, in Fort Worth, Texas. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Howard Braun, Garden City, Richard Braun, Deerfield, and the Rev. Paul Scheumack Jr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; a daughter, Dianne Scheumack-Wolcott, Castle Rock, Colo.; a sister, Cecelia Adamson, Grand Junction, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, four sisters and a great-grandson.
Vigil service and rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with Father Joseph Bahr presiding. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
Memorials may be sent to the church, in care of the funeral home.
