Dora Lucile Anderson Langley Sylvester was born in Wilsonville, Nebraska, on July 31, 1925, the daughter of C.R and Mary Anderson.
Dora passed away on May 30, 2014.
Dora was an excellent hostess and cook, enjoying preparing meals for her family and friends. Dora was an avid stamp collector and served in leadership roles at the Palo Duro Philatelic Society. Over the years, she collected thousands of stamps from about 15 countries. Dora also had a unique collection of miniature antique lamps. Dora began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse at age 17. Dora got her bachelor's degree at Chadron's State Teacher's College, and her master's degree at the University of Wyoming. Dora taught primary school children in Valentine, Nebraska, Laramie, Torrington and Riverton, Wyoming and Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Dora was an active member of Sandia and then Heights First Churches of the Nazarene. Dora served in the church's food bank and was also active in singles and greeting ministries.
Dora was preceded in death by her first husband, Forrest Langley who was killed in action during World War II and her loving husband of 61 years, Donell D. Sylvester. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Kent, her brothers, Charles Anderson and Howard Anderson and sister, Alice Babbitt.
Dora is survived by her brother, Frank Anderson (Ila), sisters, Melva Anderson and Zora Yoder (Chet), her daughter, Nancy Brown (William), son, John Sylvester (Debbie) and her daughter, Mary Dell Saling (James). Dora is also survived by four grandchildren, Deonne Benedict, Nathan Brown, Piper Wild and Aaron Cravens. Dora had eight great-grandchildren, Morgan Laird, Natalie and Owen Brown, Ethan Wild, Camille and Caleb Cravens, and Blaine and Faith Benedict. Her son John, with help from her daughters and caregiver Priscilla DuBois, lovingly cared for her during the latter years of her life. The family gives them and everyone else who cared for Dora their greatest gratitude.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at French – Wyoming, Albuquerque, NM. A service to honor her life will be held on Wednesday June 4, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Heights First Church of the Nazarene, 8401 Paseo del Norte Albuquerque, NM and burial will be in Wilsonville, Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heights First Church of the Nazarene.
