John Boyd was a Civil War veteran fighting for the Confederate Army. It was thought that John was part Indian. He and Sarah Elizabeth (Ellis) Boyd lived in Indian Territory in what became Oklahoma. Their children were listed in the probate of John Boyd's estate as follows:
