Cecil Alex Cates, 84, of Pulaski died on October 13, 2004 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Saturday at Bennett-May Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Myers officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Good Springs, Alabama. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He married Iva Imogene Rithmire on November 15, 1940. They later divorced. He married the former Rachel Josephine Ridner on September 18, 1981. She died on January 28, 1994. He is survived by his daughters, Jo Ann Wallace and Patricia Ann Lackey, both of Florence, Alabama, Bobbie Jean Rhodes of Somerville, Alabama, and Bertha Darlene Cates of Newport; his step-children, Connie Morris, David Scott, and Ruby Barnett; his brother, John Noah Cates of Decatur, Alabama; his sisters, Susie Lee White of Florence, Alabama and Violet Helen Townsend of Pulaski; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
