According to his death certificate (No. 932 Volume A Christian County, Illinois) Peter died February 9, 1882 at 4:00 p.m. Peter had typhoid fever and was getting better. However, 5 weeks later, he had a relapse and developed Pneumonia. He died one week later. He was buried February 10, 1882. Services were held at the United Brethren Church. Peter was 18 years, 5 months and 6 days old at the time of his death. He was a bachelor still living with Peter and Abigail, his parents, and worked on the farm.
Dr. H. S. Strain of Nokomis was his doctor and the undertaker officiating was George Culp of Nokomis, Illinois. Peter Jr. is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery next to the tomb of his parents.
