Mrs. Mary A. Southwick died at her home on the north side about six o'clock last Thursday evening following an illness of several weeks duration. Her condition had been considered very critical and the end was not unexpected. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. H. Young, pastor of the Methodist church in this city, and interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.

The deceased was born in Illinois April 23, 1846, so at the time of her death had attained the age of 68 years, 10 months and 18 days. She came to Hawarden with her family nearly twenty years ago. During her years of residence here she has made many friends among her neighbors, who will sincerely mourn her departure. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mabel E. Welton of Cumberland. Iowa, and seven sons, Seward and Winfred of this city, Schuyler and Eugene of Los Angeles. Ted of Wilson. N. D., Guy of Kettle Falls, Wash., and Shell. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved relatives.
