On Dec. 24, 1932, she married Melvin Gerald "Mel" Dakin. Their marriage continued for almost 70 years until his death in 2002.
Following a stay in Stillwater, Okla., from 1935-1937, she and her husband came to Baton Rouge in 1937, and, except from 1941 to 1947, lived in Baton Rouge the rest of their lives.
When she was a child, her father traded a team of Clydesdale draft horses for a piano so that his youngest daughter could take much-longed for music lessons from the train stationmaster's wife.
After Mr. Dakin retired from the LSU Law School, they traveled extensively, making their last trip to Cancun for Christmas 2000, when they were both 92.
She is survived by a son, Lance Jorn Dakin and his wife, Louise Liu Dakin, of Falls Church, Va., and their children, Linnea Liu Dakin of Los Angeles and Bjorn Dakin and his wife, Elizabeth McCoy Dakin, of Athens, Ga.; and a daughter, Karen Ilse Dakin of Mexico City, her husband, Sergio Calderon, and their two children, Patrick Emiliano Calderon-Dakin and Johanna Calderon-Dakin of Los Angeles and Mexico City; a brother-in-law, Roy E. Dakin and his wife, Lillian Dakin, of Chicago; a niece, Mary Jo Blake of Boise, Idaho; and a number of grandnieces and nephews.
