Zora W. Adams was born to John C. Adams and Martha Adams in Moweaqua, Illinois. She was a sister to Ada (Kirkman), Ellington, Eureka (Taylor), Gracie and Jessie (Bramblett). She married Thomas McGrath in California after the family had temporarily moved to Santa Cruz. Thomas played baseball for the Santa Cruz Pacific Coast League team. They had two children; Frances and Thomas Jr.. Zora and Thomas spent many years in the Hawaiian Islands before returning to California.
