He was a graduate of Morris Harvey College and the West Virginia University College of Graduate Studies. He was a member of the Putnam County Principal's Association and Phi Delta Kappa and the recipient of several awards and commendations, including the Phi Delta Kappa Outstanding Administrator Award. Surviving: wife, Deborah; daughter, Andrea Childers at home; sons, Christopher, Ryan and Brandon, all at home; mother, Inez Childers-Grady of Winfield; brother, Keigh of Scott Depot.
