Mrs. Shipley came to Smith County KS in the fall of 1877 in a covered wagon with her parents who homesteaded in Martin township near Reamsville.
21 Sep 1894 she married Benjamin Clinton Shipley. Mr. and Mrs. Shipley spent all their lives in Smith County.
Five children were born: Cora Hutchinson, Huron, SD; Harry Shipley, Lebanon, KS; Lena Ney, Greeley, CO; Mamie Scott, Syracuse, KS; and Nettye Green, Beverly, KS. Mr. Shipley passed away 28 Feb 1934.
Mrs. Shipley had 6 sisters and 4 brothers. Three brothers and 2 sisters preceded her in death. Those who remain are Mrs. Myrtle Adams, Franklin NE; Mrs. Susan Irish, Charles City, IA; Mrs. Gertrude Woodward, McCook, NE; Guy L Irish, Grogan, MO; and Mrs. Tressie E Hart, Cheyenne, WY. There are also 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 12 Jan. Interment was at Fairview cemetery, Smith Center.
