Seamstress was devoted wife and mother
Lillian M. Bittner, 89, of 211 Duval St., Berwick, concluded her journey in this life at 9:55 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, in the Berwick Hospital Center with her family by her side.
Born in Berwick, April 21, 1920, a daughter of the late Stanley and Daisie Kishbaugh Remley, she lived her entire life in the Berwick and Nescopeck area. A devoted wife and mother, she was also a seamstress.
A member of First United Church of Christ, Nescopeck, and the Ladies Aid Society at the church, she loved to be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Walter F. Bittner, who died Feb. 2, 1982; a daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Barski, who died Jan. 15, 2004; brothers: Arthur and Richard Remley; and sisters: Anna Mary Eveland and Ellen DiPasquale.
Lillian will be remembered by her daughter, Susan Karchner, and husband, Marlin, with whom she resided; grandchildren: Kris Barski, Kentucky; Scott Karchner and wife, Barbara, Berwick; Matthew Karchner and wife, Terry, Berwick; Stephanie Kelchner and husband, Sonny, Berwick; Michele Silvetti and husband, Jay, Berwick; 13 great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Terry Remley, and wife, Mary, Berwick; sisters: Alice Kemmerer, Nescopeck; Annetta Bankus, Berwick; Dorothy Remley, Berwick; Kay Creveling, Berwick; and Sandra Knorr and husband, John Berwick. "Always in our hearts."
Entrusted to the care of the Heller Funeral Home, Nescopeck, where services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Dennison, her pastor, presiding. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Calling hours on Monday from 7-9 p.m. Family will provide all the flowers.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Memorial Fund of First United Church of Christ, 832 E. Third St., Nescopeck, PA 18635.
