Walter F. Bittner, 67, of 312 Broad Street, Nescopeck, died early Tuesday morning at the Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital, New York City.
Born in Lansford, May 12, 1914, he was the son of the late Charles and Effie Fetterman Bittner, and a step-son of the late Alfred Kemmerer Sr. Mr. Bittner lived in Nescopeck 42 years. He was a retired electrician for Deluxe Homes of Berwick, where he was employed 15 years. Prior to that he worked for Eli Bull and Company Confectioners 31 years. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Nescopeck, where he served as an elder, deacon and superintendent of the Sunday scchool for many years.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lillian Remley to whom he was married 42 years in November; two daughters: Mrs. Walter (Peggy) Barski, Mrs. Marlin (Susan) Karchner, both of Berwick; five granddchilren; three sisters: Mrs. Wayman (Elva) Miers, Nescopeck; Mrs. Lester (Ethel) White, Bloomsburg RD 1; Mrs. Clinton (Bessie) Roth, Allentown; half brothers and sister: Ray Kemmerer, Berwick; Mrs. Samuel (Jane) Yoder, Nescopeck RD 1; Alfred Kemmerer Jr., Nescopeck; Larry, Lewisburg; step-brothers and sisters: John Kemmerer, Lansdale; Mrs. Fred (Violet) Beach, Berwick; and Howard Kemmerer, Berwick.
Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from the Heller Funerl Home, Nescopeck, with the Rev. Paul W. Cope, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.
