Betty Jean Lambson Kemp, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, returned to our Heavenly Father on March 31, 2014 while surrounded her family.

Betty was born August 17, 1935, the youngest of the fourteen children of Apolles Lorenzo and Mary Ethel Young Lambson. She was very proud of her family, especially her brothers who served in the military. She tried to honor and serve them throughout her life.

Betty was born in Salt Lake City and grew up in the Lambson family home in Midvale. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1953.

She was working as a secretary in Salt Lake when she met her sweetheart, Shirel C. Kemp. They were married on September 20, 1958, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on January 13, 1962.

The most important thing in her life was her family. She gave her all to support her husband and raise her five children. She sacrificed so much to raise a severely handicapped child, our dear Claudia, and yet was always there for all of her children. She loved dearly each of her five children, thirteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She lived her testimony of the gospel every day of her life. She tried to love as the Savior loved, unconditionally and without reserve. Among her greatest accomplishments were the kind words and deeds that helped so many.

She served faithfully in the LDS Church, including callings as Primary President, Relief Society President, and serving ten years in the branch at the Sandy Regional Health Center.

She was a talented teacher for many years and had a special gift for teaching with the spirit. She endured her many years of health problems with great courage and faith and never lost her desire to serve and think of others before herself. In times of trial, she drew much strength from the histories of her ancestors and was very proud of her pioneer heritage.

She is survived by her husband, Shirel Kemp, and her five children, Claudia Kemp, Lynette Mumford (Royce), Ryan Kemp (Nancy), Lisa Rasmussen (Randy), and Julie Kemp. She is also survived by in-laws, Jackie Lambson, Jean Lambson, Earl Cummings, and Afton Kemp. She was preceded in death by her parents and her thirteen siblings, Rex (Verda and Fern), Leona Otteson (Sid), Almon (Fannie), Charles, Bonner (Vivian), Bill, Ida, Arb (Loa), Don, Ronald (Jackie), Kenneth (Jean), Vera, and Carol Cummings (Earl); and her in-laws, Keith Kemp (Darhl) and Don Kemp (Afton).

There will be a viewing held at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street (100 East), Midvale, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014. The funeral will be held at 12:00 p.m., with a viewing one hour prior, on Saturday, April 5, 2014 in the Hidden Creek Ward Chapel, 8950 South 400 East, Sandy.
Interment: South Jordan City Cemetery.
