BIO: Genealogical and Biographical Record 1897 p. 177 for his great grandson Albert J. B. Almony states: The great grandfather of our subject, John Almony, was a native of England, and is supposed to have been stolen when a child of 4 years and brought to America, where he arrived previous to the Revolutionary war. His clothes were of fine material, leading him to believe his parents were people of means, but he was never able to find out anything concerning them. He was reared by a Virginian family. On reaching manhood he returned to England where he married a scotch lady of wealth, and with her money he purchased a large tract of land in this country which is still in the possession of his descendents. "Nottinghamshire farm," a valuable track of 235 acres (originally comprising 800 acres), which our subject now owns, belonged to the estate, and is one of the finest farms in Baltimore County.

Patriot - He signed the Oath of Fidelity at Harford Courthouse in March 1778 under Robert Amos' return which means that any descendent of John is eligible for membership in the DAR, SAR, and CAR.
