George H. Shannon, 85, of the Vale Haven Convalescent Home, died Friday at Oswego Hospital after a long illness.
A life resident of Oswego, Mr. Shannon was the son of Edgar and Nellie Feeney Shannon. A welder by trade, he worked at Fitzgibbons Boiler during World War II, then at Armstrong Cork in Fulton before retiring in 1965.
Mr. Shannon was married to the former Martha Koska, who died in 1972; he was predeceased also by a son, George, who died in 1972.
Mr. Shannon was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. He was also a member of the Textile Workers Union.
He is survived by a daughter, Marlene of Oswego; two sons, John of Albany and Clarence of Oswego; two sisters, Helen Costello of Pennsylvania and Mary Catherine Mercier of Oswego; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a close friend, Mabel Pierce.
Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Nelson Funeral Home and at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 124 W. Fifth St.
