Edgar E. Shannon, of 32 West Oneida St., well known business man here for 50 years, died Sunday morning in Oswego hospital after an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Nellie Feeney Shannon.

Educated in St. Paul's Academy, he operated the Shannon Garage for several years following the closing of his shop as wagon maker and painter. He was one of the last two surviving charter members of Oswego Council, Knights of Columbus.

He was a member and president of the Board of Education of the city of Oswego for several years. Mr. Shannon was a fornmer president of the Reciprosity Building and Loan Association and was later vice president of the Security Building and Loan Association.

Mr. Shannon always took an active part in civic affairs, and some years ago was awarded a certificate acknowledging his 50 years in business in Oswego city.

Several years ago he was an active sportsman and a member of the Knights of Columbus baseball team for several seasons.

He was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic church.

Surviving are three sons; J. Edgar Shannon, Pittsburgh, Pa., Harold D. Shannon, Asbury Park, N.J., and George H. Shannon, Oswego; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas R.(Helen) Costello, New Hartford and Mrs. Fred. J.(Kathryn) Mercier, Oswego; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. John Keenan, North Tonawanda and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral which will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the family home, 32 West Oneida St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Burial will be in St. Paul's cemetery.
Friends may call at the convenience of the family.
