Howard, as he was known to most family and friends, was born February 26, 1923, in Nacogdoches County to parents David L. Bass and Ruth Charlton Bass and had been a lifelong area resident. His survivors include his wife, Vera Bass; a son, Randy Bass of Nacogdoches; daughter, Gail Martin and husband Doug of Nacogdoches; grandsons, Jeff Todd and wife Tanis of Nacogdoches and Josh Bass and wife Lindsey of Fort Bragg, North Carolina; granddaughters, Amanda Woodard and Alana Bass, both of Nacogdoches; great-grandsons, Zachary Todd and Shannon Todd, both of Nacogdoches; and sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Bass and Audie Mae Bass, both of Nacogdoches; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers.
Services are set for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel with Bro. James Ervin and Bro. Steve Slover officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
