Mrs. Bessie A. Wheeler Hendey, 97, formerly of Greenway and 732 N. James St., died Monday, Dec. 18, 1989, in Stonehedge Nursing Home, where she had resided since August 1982.
Born in Greenway, Aug. 9, 1892, she was a daughter of Fred B. and Caroline Howe Wheeler. She graduated from Rome Free Academy, On Aug. 8, 1916, she married George A. Hendey in First Presbyterian Church. He died March 8, 1960. After their marriage, the couple resided in Bridgeport, Conn., for a period before returning to Rome.
Mrs. Hendey was a member of the First Presbyterian church and its Circle 4 and Louise Williamson Bible Class; Old New York Frontier Chapter, Daughters of the American Colonists, and Fort Stanwix Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Dorothy Lynne) Mertes, Mission Hills, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Frank (Katherine) Wesley, Clearwater, Fla.
Services will be held Friday at the Prince-Boyd & Hyatt Funeral Home,. Burial will be in Verona Cemetery.
