Katie Wiggins Major, age 90 of Newton, Texas died Sunday March 16, 2014 at her home surrounded by her 5 children, family and friends.

On the eve of her departure to Heaven, Katie was serenaded with old time gospel music by her family and friends.

The family had been planning a 91st birthday party for Ms Katie, so they had a birthday cake and sang "Happy Birthday" to her on Sunday.

Born in Antlers, Oklahoma on April 1, 1923 to John Monroe Daniel Wiggins and Hagar Edward Wiggins, Katie lived in numerous places before finally settling down in Newton.

She was a 1941 graduate of Newton High School and attended every class reunion they had. She was very involved in the Home Extension Club and the Newton County Fair. She had just given up her job in the Rachel Drummond Arts and Crafts Building last year.

Katie married the "love of her life", Joe Major on April 11, 1942. Together they raised six children and their first grandchild, Tana Major Tomplait, most of her life.

Katie met Joe in Fort Polk, Louisiana and they remained in love for all of their 63 years of marriage. They set a fine example for their children by teaching them the "right way" to live.

Katie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe, her son Kenneth (Ken) Major, her sister Rachel Wiggins Drummond, her brothers, Buron Wiggins and Durrell Wiggins.

Her survivors include her son Ronnie Major, her daughters, Debbie McMahon and husbnd Tommy of Evans, Louisiana, Sharon Lewis and husbnad John, Sarah Hall and husband Marvin and Karyn Lobb and husband Eddie, all of Newton, 13 grandchildren and numberous great-grandchildren.

Known in Newton as "Granny" or "Aunt Katie", she touched the lives of all who knew her.
