23 Nov 1904: Charles B. Andrews died at 7:30 o'clock this morning of paralysis at home, 28 North Fifth Street. He was first stricken two years ago, but to some extent recovered from its effects, but on Tuesday, November 15, he suffered a second stroke, which affected his entire right side and left him speechless. No hope was held out for his recovery from the first and his death was momentarily expected thereafter. He was conscious to the end. Mr. Andrews was born 63 years ago in Bernville, Berks County, being a son of the late Abraham Andrews. He was the last of the family. Coming here in 1872 with his family, he continued his residence in this city until the final summons came. Mr. Andrews was a coach trimmer, but he devoted most of his life to inventions, being very successful. He paid particular attention to the manufacture of matches and invented a number of machines, which he sold to the Diamond Match Company. During the war of the Rebellion, he served as a musician in the Twenty-sixth Pennsylvania Volunteers and was a pensioner. After coming here, he became a member of the Perseverance Band. He was a member of the First Reformed Church and Gretna Council, Royal Arcanum. His wife and three sons, Harry A. and William, of this city, and John, of Buffalo, N.Y., survive him. The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon from his late residence where services will be held. Interment will be made at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. [Lebanon Daily News]
