David Henry Applegate was born June 5, 1867 at Bradleyville, the son of Gilbert and Catherine Craker Applegate. On March 28, 1886 he was united in marriage to Fannie Horner and to this union 13 children were born. Mrs. Fannie Applegate passed away on June 18, 1916 and six children also preceded Mr. Applegate in death. Oakten,Dale,Oda,Mrs. Mary Simmons, Mrs. Myrtle Johnson and Miss Beautrea Applegate. On November 26, 1919 he was married to Grace Perkins and to this union one son, James Henry and one daughter Mrs. James Rierson were born. The daughter passed away in May 1947. Mrs. Gracie Applegate also preceded Mr. Applegate in death. Mr. Applegate was converted at the age of 44 years at the High Lonesome Baptist Church. He was a member of the IOOFLodge at Rogersville. Survivors include seven sons, O.A. and Burl of Parlin, Colo., twins, Honie and Thonie of Selah, Wash., Penny of Oldfield, Melvis of Keltner and James Henry of Davenport, Okla, one daughter Mrs. Dorothy Upson of Selah Wash., three brothers, Mack of Paso Robles, Calif., George of Berryville, Ark. and Jim Frank of Springfield, 44 grandchildren;45 great grandchildren;one great, great grandchild; other relatives and a host of friends. He entered into rest on Sept 8, 1955 at his home near Keltner at the age of 88y ears, 3 months and 3 days. Funeral services were held at 2:00 Monday, Sept. 12, 1955 at the Sparta Baptist Church with Rev. Roscoe Harding officiating. Burial was in Old Boston Cemetery; east of Oldfield, under direction of the Harris Funeral Home of Nixa. Escorts were Howard, Glen, Warren, Dee and Robert Applegate and Jerry Upson.
