Mary E. Topper, 71, of Hanover, died Sunday evening, February 01, 1998 in her home.

She was born February 13, 1926, in Hanover, the daughter of the late Urban F. and Cora E. (Becker) Staub.

Mary was a 1944 graduate of Delone Catholic High School and a 1946 graduate of St. Anne's Hospital School of Nursing in Washington, District of Columbia.

She was a Registered Nurse and caregiver in York and Hanover for many years.

Mary was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, where she was active in its choir for many years.

She also was a member of the National Council of Catholic Women, the Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary Post 1190 in York, and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Mary was the wife of Francis J. Topper and they observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary September 20.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters: Karen Hostetter and Susan Inners, both of York, Mary Ellen Wildasin of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Joan Topper of Danville; her sons: Michael Topper of Lancaster, Patrick Topper and David Topper, both of York, and James Topper of Hanover; her twenty grandchildren; her three great-grandchildren; her three sisters: Loretta Livelsberger and Doris Leonard, both of Hanover, and Beatrice Neiderer of Bonneauville; and, her brothers: Robert Staub, James Staub and William Staub, all of Hanover, Urban Staub and Mark Staub, both of McSherrystown, and John Staub of Fairview Heights, Illinois.

Visitation will be from 09:00 to 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 05, 1998 in the St. Vincent de Paul Church, 220 Third St., Hanover. A Funeral Liturgy will be at 11:00 AM with the Celebrant being the Rev. Bernard Quinn.

Burial will be private in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
