He was born on Oct. 22, 1906, to Albert and Karen (Sveen) Larson near Hatton, ND. where he attended school. He worked as a carpenter and construction worker until starting employment with Mando in the Falls in 1937.
He joined the Army Special Forces in 1942 and was awarded the Purple Heart when he was wounded during hand to hand combat in Holland in 1944. He was also a veteran of the Normandy, northern France, Ardennes. Rhineland and central European campaigns. He was honorably discharged from the 99th Infantry Ski Battalion in November 1945.
He married the former Alice McEldowney/Servis in December 1956.
After he retired at the age of 65, as a millwright supervisor in 1971, he returned to North Dakota and went into partnership with his brother-in-law, Art Winters, recycling old buildings.
He enjoyed filling his spare time sharpening saw blades and sharing the produce from a large garden in Reynolds, N.D.
After his wife's death in May 1988, he returned to the Falls and lived with his son Delane Servis for a few months before moving into the Woodland Apartments.
Survivors include four stepchildren, Dave (Mary) Servis of Outing, Minn., Delane (Linda) Servis of the Falls. Ellen Bartel of Romeoville, Ill., and Mary (James) Johnson of Littlefork; 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, April 24 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Green-Larsen Funeral Home.
Services with full military honors will be 9 a.m., Saturday, April 25 at Zion Lutheran Church.
