Mrs. Martha J. Briggs, 82, a lifelong resident of Gaithersburg, Maryland, departed this life on February 20, 2014, in Walkersville, Maryland.
Martha believed in God and Jesus, said she always did, and wanted to go to Heaven; she was a Methodist. Martha had a great love of reading. A staunch Democrat, she kept abreast of politics. She retired from Watkins-Johnson Company where she worked as an electronics technician.
Martha deeply mourned the loss of her son, Walter Briggs Jr., who passed on in 2011. She is survived by sisters, Esther King of Dillsburg, PA and Shirley Kitzmiller of Gaithersburg; a brother, John Hargett II of Monrovia; a granddaughter, Jessica Lertora, and great-granddaughters, Serena, Susanna, and Sophia of Thurmont; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her son, she was predeceased by her husband, Walter Briggs, Sr., her parents, John A. Hargett and Blanche W. Mills Hargett; and her siblings Lucille Hargett, Lillian Beall, Charles Hargett, Thomas W. Hargett, and Mary Crown.
Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, Maryland (beside South Carroll High School), on Tuesday, February 25, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service which will be held at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Art Monroe officiating. Internment will be in Forest Oak Cemetery, Gaithersburg,
