August G. “Gus” Bax, 98, St. Elizabeth, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Care Center. He was born Nov. 8, 1898, in St. Elizabeth, a son of Joseph and Anna Dickneite Bax. He was married Nov. 11, 1924, in St. Anthony, to Rosa D. Braun, who survives at the home.

A farmer, he was a lifelong resident of St. Elizabeth. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth.

Other survivors include: two sons, Norman J. Bax, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Giles A. Bax, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one daughter, Lorraine Bax, Kaiser; two brothers, Anton Bax and Victor Bax, both of St. Elizabeth; two sisters, Catherine Hoecker, St. Elizabeth, and Martha Berendzen, Marys Home; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. The Rev. John Degnan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
