Sarah Ann Warner was born to Mary Reynolds and William Warner.
Sarah had a natural talent for sewing. While still young, she enjoyed making her own clothes and often made over the dresses that her mother had made for her before she would wear them. She could crochet, tat, and knit and enjoyed piecing quilts. This lasted throughout her life.
On June 28, 1878, she married William Don Carlos Markham in the Old Endowment House in Salt Lake City.
Sarah's home was always full. She mothered immigrants who came from the South until they found homes for themselves. One day Don came back from a mission and stepped off the train with a pregnant woman and a small boy. Imagine how Sarah must have felt when Don said, "This is Mrs. Helton and she is going home with us.". All Sarah said, though she probably felt like saying more, was, "She had better come along then.". After Don had time to explain, Sarah's heart softened and took Mrs. Helton and her son, Ottie, into her already over-crowded home and treated her as a sister.
They had twelve children: Mary Warner Markham, Sarah Ann Markham, Don Carlos Markham, Bertha Maretta Markham, Stephen D. Markham, Effie Markham, Lucy Markham, Othella Markham, Joseph Wilford Markham, George Reynolds Markham, Ora Christine Markham and Vernecia Markham.
