Francis (Frank) Antil was born Nov. 28, 1929, to Joseph and Albina (Morin) Antil, in Maple Lake, Minn. Frank graduated from Maple Lake High School and Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1951, where he spent two years at the Naval Justice School at Port Hueneme, Calif., and two years in Key West, Fla., on the EDE sub chaser in the Bermuda Triangle. The highlight of his naval career was shaking hands with Adm. Chester W. Nimitz at an inspection of the Naval Justice School. He also was a boxer in the U.S. Navy. Frank received an honorable discharge in 1951.

After leaving the U.S. Navy, Frank went to work on newspapers in Delano and Zumbrota, Minn., from 1953 to 1955. He moved to Valley City to work for the TimesRecord from 1955 to 1959. Frank married Marie Jean Kern on May 12, 1956, in Cando. They moved their family to Bismarck in 1959, where he worked for the Bismarck Tribune until he retired in 1991.

During his retirement, Frank volunteered at the Senior Center, delivered Meals on Wheels, worked part-time at the King Koin Laundromat and still enjoyed the occasional fishing trip. Frank was a charter member of Church of Corpus Christi of Bismarck.

Frank died Aug. 5, 2010, in a Bismarck care center. Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Church of Corpus Christi with the Rev. Paul Becker officiating. Burial was at 2 p.m. at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

At his passing Frank was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Victor, Arthur, James and Gerald.
