Kenneth R. Trammell, 79, died on Nov. 19, 2010, at his home in Philomath.

He was an avid bicyclist, mountain hiker, photographer, skier and folk dancer.

He was born March 13, 1931, in National, Utah, a company-owned mining town. As the fifth in a family of 12 children, his early years in rural Arkansas were marked by severe poverty and struggle. The family moved to Oregon and better times in 1940.

Ken graduated from Dayton High School in 1951, and was immediately drafted into the U.S. Army.

He re-enlisted into the U.S. Air Force as a weather observer until his military retirement in 1972.

Later he managed a bicycle shop in Portales, N.M., and worked as a day janitor at the Corvallis Clinic.

He was a world traveler eager to explore local cultures. While stationed in London, he met Anne Cocker. They were married in 1959 in Colwyn Bay, North Wales. They had two daughters, Anna and Marina.

His memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at First Christian Church, 602 S.W. Madison Ave. in Corvallis.

According to Ken's wishes, a wake will take place outdoors next spring. Anyone wishing to attend may contact the family for details.

Arrangements are by McHenry Funeral Home.
