DANVILLE - (Miriam) Gene Appleby Johnson, 88, departed this earth Jan. 29, 2014, in Danville. She was the daughter of Wayne and Gretta Appleby.She grew up in Ryde, and graduated from Mount Union High School. She received her RN from Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing, and worked there until she joined the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, where she met her husband. As a military wife for 15 years, she enjoyed raising her family on bases around the U.S and in Berlin, Germany. When her husband retired from the military, they settled on the Maryland/Pennsylvania line in Blue Ridge Summit, where she was a nurse for 27 years, retiring as a Maryland public health nurse. She loved family get-togethers and travelingShe is survived by: her two daughters and a son, Jann Rudowski and husband, Paul, Hal Johnson and wife, Elizabeth, and Nancy Levine; five grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; a brother and his wife, George and Bette Appleby; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Moist, and Marge and Edd Bard.She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1980, and her brother, Gerald Appleby.It was her wish that her body be donated to science. Memorial services will be held at the
