Services in connection with the funeral of Mrs. Alice Bresee Hartshorne,widow of the late Brig. Gen. William Ross Hartshorne who died on Sunday evening, July 16, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John F. Whittaker, 1631 North Front Street, Harrisburg, took place in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Curwensville on Wednesday afternoon. Dr. E. C. Reeve, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Clearfield, of which the deceased had been a member for many years, officiating.

She was 89 years old, being born Feb. 15, 1845 in Shelbyville, Tenn., the daughter of the late Dr. William Reese Bresee and Mary Ann Cummings Bresee.

She was married to William Ross Hartshorne on Decembr 13, 1863 at the home of the bride in Acasemin, Juniata County, Pa. Hartshorne, who had enlisted in Company K of the famous Bucktail Regiment as firs lieutenant on March 21, 1861 at Curwensville, being advanced in rank at various intervals during the progress of the rebellion until he had received a commission as major in the 42nd Regiment, known as the Bucktails, and assumed command when its commander, Col. Frederick Taylor, was killed in the battle of Gettysburg. On March 13, 1865 he was breveted brigadier general, continuing in command of the Bucktails until the close of the Civil War and was mustered out with his command on July 2, 1865 at Harrisburg.

She was the mother of three daughter: Mrs. L. C. Norris of Clearfield, Mrs. John F. Whittaker of Harrisburg, and Mrs. Walter K. Harnish of Tyrone.

Since the death of her husband in the year 1905 she has resided at intervals with her daughters. She was a member of the Harrisburg Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the War of 1812.

A devout Christian mother, devaling four score years of her life time in the service of her Master.
