Cadiz----Mary Grace Cunningham Thomas, 95, a former Trigg County sheriff, has died. A resident of Hopkinsville, and formerly of Cadiz, she died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, June 12, 2005, at Christian Health Center, Hopkinsville of natural causes.

Mrs. Thomas was one of only two women to ever serve as Trigg County sheriff when she was appointed in 1961 to complete the term of her husband, Luther T. Thomas, who was appointed by Governor Combs as warden of the state penitentiary at Eddyville.

She had also worked with her husband during his service as Trigg County tax commissioner, and in the family's automobile dealership and farm equipment business in Cadiz.

She was a member of Cadiz Baptist Church. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband in 1965.

Survivors include two sons, Luther Daniel Thomas, of Marietta, Georgia, and Dr. George Thomas of Bowling Green, Kentucky; and five grandchildren.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Ellis officiating. Burial was in East End Cemetery, Cadiz.

Serving as pallbearers were Luke Thomas, Caleb Thomas, Wesley Thomas, Danny Bozarth, Marty Bozarth, and Ramon Hayden Oliver.
