Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church of Canyon with the Rev. Jim W. Brown, Ruth's son, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.
Ruth was born Feb. 7, 1923, in Oklahoma to Walter T. and Dora Rose Scruggs. She spent her life in Texas, and moved to the Canyon area in 1942. She was a homemaker and farmer's wife. She loved children and faithfully served her Lord and church by serving in the nursery of First Baptist Church of Canyon for more than 40 years. She had the gift of hospitality and encouragement. Nadean was a wonderful cook, well known for her homemade rolls and coconut pie. She strived for a personal relationship with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and touched the lives of many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Noble W. Brown, in 2002; and a son, Jerry Don Brown, in 1942.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth H. Brown and wife Carol of Friendswood, Jim W. Brown and wife Diana of Lubbock and Gene Ray Brown and wife Sheryl of Canyon; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; her brother, Bobby Scruggs and wife Betty of Amarillo; and two sisters Odessa Lindemann of Umbarger and Maurine Abbott and husband Benny of Canyon.
The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church Nursery Fund, 1717 Fourth Ave., Canyon, TX 79015 or Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, in care of Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Foundation, 1600 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
