Allen died peacefully in a hospice home with his son, Joel Corcoran, at his bed side.
He attended school in St. Edward, Nebraska from kindergarten through 11th grade. The family moved to Nampa, Idaho, in the summer of 1963 and he graduated from Nampa High School in 1964.
Allen was a running back, a sprinter and 440 relay runner, a pitcher, and a tuba player.
He was one of the last of the door-to-door milkmen in Portland. He worked several years for Alpenrose, then more than 34 years at Darigold NW Dairy Cooperative, from 10 April 1979 until medical retirement 31 December 2013. He was a driver, warehouseman, and accounts manager. He was unable to work for his final year because of cancer and treatment, but it was being unable to return to work that killed him. Growing up on a Nebraska dryland farm, it was his dream to have an office job someday - and he achieved it.
His other dream was to marry Linda Jenkins. This was realized 23 March 1985 in Tigard, Oregon. They knew each other all their lives, dated in high school, met at Alumni in St. Edward in 1984, and then spent (almost)30 years together.
Linda survives, as do his sister, Joan Mahoney of St. Edward and her family; his brother, Keith Werts of Spokane, Washington, and his family; son, Terry Werts. Other survivors are Linda's sons, Joel Corcoran of Portland, Oregon, and Jarrett Corcoran and his family of Washington, Illinois; numerous Werts and Thomazin cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is greatly missed by friends, co-workers, and neighbors.
Allen enjoyed golf and poker, watching the Oregon Ducks and the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Jack Daniels and good coffee, his iPad, all things computer, especially Photoshop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Madeline Jones and Germaine Burton, and his brother Harry. A Remembrance Gathering for retirees and co-workers has been held at Darigold. Inurnment was made in Chestnut Grove Memorial Garden, Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery, Portland, Oregon.
