Paul W. Canedy, stricken on camporee
Paul William Canedy, 54, of Wheel Estates, scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 33 of the First Baptist Church, collapsed and died Saturday afternoon while attending the Boy Scout camporee in Williamstown.
Dr. Edmond P. Larkin, Northern Berkshire medical examiner, said death was due to natural causes.
A native of Williamstown, Mr. Canedy was the son o late Edward and Carrie (Alderman) Canedy, and had always lived in this area. Active in scouting for many years, he had received numerous awards. He was a veteran of World War II and served with Co. B. of the 643rd Tank Destroyer Battalion, and had participated in all major battles of the European theater. He received his discharge in California in 1945. He attended the First Baptist Church and was a member of the Sanctuary Choir.
He leaves his wife, the former Rachel Mirante; one daughter, Marianne Canedy of this city; a son, Robert David, who is serving in the Army and is stationed in South Carolina; and a sister, Mrs. John Hovila in Texas. A brother, Charles, died Aug. 24 1970.
Calling hours at the Soucie Funeral Home will be from 7 to 9 tonight, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., tomorrow.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church, because of work being done in the First Baptist Church. The Rev. D. Paul C. Klose, pastor of the Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot in Southview Cemetery.
