She was born in North Adams on May 27, 1918, daughter of Antonio and Rosaria (Pullano) Mirante. She attended North Adams schools.
Rachel worked at the Windsor Print Works and during World War II, she worked at Sprague Electric Co. She was primarily a homemaker and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Rachel was a member of the Daughters of Italy and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Frank R. Stiles Post #125 American Legion. She enjoyed reading.
She was the widow of Paul Canedy who died October 16, 1971. They were married on February 23, 1946.
Survivors include one daughter, Marianne Jane Bailey, and her husband, Stephen of Clarksburg; one son, Robert D. Canedy of North Adams; four grandsons, Eric Bailey, and his wife, Rebecca, of Wakefield, Jason Bailey, and his wife, Lisa, of Worcester, Scott Bailey, and his wife, Katie, of Westfield, and Mark Bailey, and his wife, Marcia, of North Adams; one brother, Edward Mirante of North Adams; one sister, Celia Mirante of North Adams; nieces and nephews. Five brothers and five sisters are deceased including Antonio, Salvatore, and James Mirante; and Theodore and Arthur Meranti; Mary Aldrich; and Beatrice, Leticia, Anna, and Rita Mirante.
The funeral will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010 at 8:15 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall Street, North Adams, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 a.m. in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church.
Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery.
