Charles Canedy, 57, WWII veteran
Charles Simeon Canedy, 57, of 407 Houghton St., Clarksburg, a native of North Adams and a veteran of World War II, died last night about 9:45 at the North Adams Hospital shortly after he had been admitted.
A lifelong resident of the area, he was the son of the late Edward and Carrie (Alderman) Canedy. He attended local schools and was employed by the General Electric Co. in Pittsfield as a drill press operator.
He had served in the Army prior to and after World war II, and was a technician 4th grad in the Searchlight Brigade, 245th Coast Artillery Battalion, in the Asiatic Theater during the war. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He leaves his wife, the former Doris E. Roach; three children, Mrs. John Weld of Peabody, Debra Canedy, and a son, Gary Canedy, both at home. He also leaves two grandchildren, Robin and Shaun Weld of Peabody; a sister, Mrs. John Hovila of Wichita Falls, Texas; a brother Paul Canedy of North Adams; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 Thursday afternoon at the San Soucie Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Paul C Klose, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Southview Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday.
