Mr. Maurice Elwood Colson, 90, of Boiling Springs, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2014. A native of Lancaster, PA, he was the loving husband of Midoriko Sugaya Colson and the son of the late Earl D. Colson and Florence Hacker Colson. He served our country from 1943 until 1972 when he retired as Sergeant First Class from the United States Army having served in WWII, the Korean War and Vietnam War. He received the American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal: 9th award, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Medal with OLC, Army Commendation Medal with 3d oak leaf cluster, Army Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 service Bronze Star Medal, UN Service Medal, and the Korean Defense Service Medal. Mr. Colson was the last surviving veteran with three wars under his belt in Boiling Springs, SC. After service, he worked for Coachman Industries for 14 years as a warehouse manager. Upon retirement, he became the foundation for the Grapevine Restaurant in Boiling Springs.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Stephen L. Colson, Sr. and his wife Audrey of AL, Marina Peggy Kakouras and her husband Dimitri of Boiling Springs, and Patricia Douthit and her husband Donald of GA; one brother, Earl L. Colson of PA; 6 grandchildren and by 5 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Colson.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Eggers Funeral Home of Boiling Springs from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 11:00 am at Eggers Funeral Home Chapel with Father George Nayfa officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
