Joyce was raised in the Minneola and Meade areas, having moved to WaKeeney in the 1960's. She was a Minneola High School graduate. On September 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to Clarence E. Schneidewind in Minneola. They enjoyed 46 years of marriage together, until Clarence's death on January 9, 1997. Joyce was a proud homemaker. She owned and operated Joyce's House of Glass in WaKeeney. In her working years, she and her husband enjoyed going to area auctions to find antiques and glassware for their business. She was known for her sewing talents, as well as her kind-heartedness and honesty. She will be missed by many.
Survivors include her companion, Doug Hill; three daughters, a brother, five grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers (twins) Bob and Ed; and three sisters Virginia, Lavina, and Gladys.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 13, 2014, at Schmitt Funeral Home of WaKeeney. Burial will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Trego Hospital Endowment Foundation or WaKeeney City Recycling Program and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
