John Hill married Elizabeth (Lizzie) Thrasher 11/4/1866 in Springfield. Source: National Archives.
They had 2 children: Emma J Hill and
Harriet E Hill.
Lizzie and both daughters passed away in 1868.
Lizzie: 12/6/1868.
All 3 buried in Newcomers Cemetery along with parents of Lizzie, John and Mary Thrasher. I have not been able to discover the cause of death of Lizzie and the children in the same year, be it illness or accident. I would greatly appreciate any help with that.
John then married Mary Elizabeth Neer (she went by Elizabeth) on 1/18/1870 in Catawba, Ohio.
A veteran of the Civil War -- 184th regiment OVI Co E honorably discharged at war's end.
John worked as a Blacksmith before and after the war.
While serving in Tennessee he became ill and suffered the rest of his life from the effects.
He applied for but was denied disability pension because no records could be found of his treatment during the war. Unfortunately this was not uncommon. Records were often poorly kept if kept at all, or were lost, damaged or destroyed.
