Dorothy Baird, 84, of rural Wapello died Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Mediapolis.
Born Jan. 1, 1921, on the family farm near Newport, she was the daughter of Harry L. and Ines Johnson Dotson. On March 3, 1941, she married Kenneth "Kenny" Baird in Burlington.
Mrs. Baird began her professional career preparing tax returns for Jess Berry and later worked for the Eland Agency. She was the first employee of Pipemaster Corp. She retired as treasurer for the Hawkeye Corp. in Mediapolis.
She was a graduate of Mediapolis High School and a graduate of Burlington Junior College. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington and was active in Lutheran and Christian fellowship activities. She was a past member of the Kings Daughters and was a member of various business organizations.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Patty Bryant of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Harriet Kennedy of Yarmouth.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, with family meeting friends from 3 to 5 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Baird will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington, with the Rev. Donald Hoornstra officiating. Burial will follow in Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis.
A memorial has been established for Mediapolis Community Ambulance and Messiah Lutheran Church.
