Martin Sedlacek, son of Wesley and Christina Sedlacek, was born September 10, 1875, at Polen, Czechoslovakia and passed away September 9, 1952, at Belleville hospital, Belleville, Kan., at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 30 days. He lacked only a few hours of being 77 years old.
At the age of 17 Martin came to this country to the home of his uncle, John Sedlecek, who lived in this community. He spent his entire life in the Republic county vicinity. About three years ago, because of his advanced age, he retired from his life work on the farm and moved to Cuba.
September 6, 1905, he was married to Miss Emma Veroda. This happy union was blessed with a splendid family of nine children, all of whom are living. They were the source of their father's happiness.
He was a devoted husband and a wonderful father. The great job of his life was the welfare and happiness of his family.
Mr. Sedlecek was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Joseph, John, Wesley and Anton; and one sister, Mary.
Mourning his departure are his wife, Emma, and his sons and daughter; Henry of Chelsea, Ia., Victor Leonard, Leo, Mrs. Sylvia Mae Deegan, Mrs. Vera Angela Graham, all of Corvallis, Ore., Ervern Ray of Tama, Ia., Mrs. Laura Ann Beggs of Topeka, Vern of Morrowville, and Raymond Walter of Clifton; also two brothers, Frank and Thomas; two sisters, Anna and Christina; 12 grandchildren, and a great circle of relatives, neighbors and friends.
Services were held at the Presbyterian church at Cuba, conducted by the Rev. Amos Rundus. Interment was in Kopsa Cemetery.
