Sophia Elizabeth Schneider, daughter of Nicholas and Katherine [sic] Schneider, was born on a farm near Cosby, July 21, 1870. Here she spent her childhood and young womanhood with her parents. After finishing school, she taught music for a number of years. With the passing of her father and mother, the home was broken up and at the age of 26, she went to Bethany to make her home with her eldest sister. She returned to St Joseph, Mo., at the age of 29. She was united in marriage to Louis W. Schrier, July 30, 1899. To this union one son, Max, was born. Mr. and Mrs. Schrier made their home in St Joseph for three years, moving from there to Fillmore. In 1905 they moved to Savannah, where they have since resided.
She decided for Christ at the early age of fifteen, and was an earnest and active member of the church all of her life. She united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, by certificate, November 27, 1910. She was a woman blessed with many talents which she used to further God's kingdom in the church, in the home and everywhere. She was beloved by all who knew her.
Mrs. Schrier was in failing health for a number of months. She was taken to the Missouri Methodist Hospital, St Joseph, for treatment, where she departed this life February 19, 1929, at the age of 58 years, 6 months and 29 days.
The deceased is survived by her husband, Louis W. Schrier; one son, Max and his wife, Esther; one grandchild, Betty Ree; six sisters, Mrs. Amelia Ruby of Bethany, Mrs. Rose Kelly of Jackson, Miss., Mrs. Lou Crowley and Mrs. Anna Rucker, both of St Joseph, Mrs. Della Reed of Kansas City and Mrs. Lillian Hare of Butler; and two brothers, William J. and Fred C. Schneider, both of St Joseph. These with loved ones and friends mourn her going." Savannah Reporter and Andrew County Democrat (Savannah, Missouri), February 22, 1929
