Gloria E. Ohrt, 1506 South 6th Street, Marshalltown, Iowa was born April 3, 1932 and departed this life January 8th, 2014 at Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Gloria was the eighth child born to Alva and Charlotte Elizabeth (Lottie) Appelgate in Toledo, Iowa. She received her education in Toledo and graduated from Toledo High School in 1950.
She married Virgil Arnold Wulff December 25, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama, Iowa and to this union two children were born, Daniel and Joy. Virgil passed away in 1971. She later married Alvin L. Ohrt on February 27, 1975 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Galena, Illinois. Al passed away in 2000.
Gloria was very active in multiple organizations and will be remembered for her creativity in making decorations for those organizations, May baskets, and meaningful church banners. She generously shared her beautiful piano talent with many clubs, organizations, and with her family and friends. She loved people and treasured their company.
Gloria fondly remembered all of her employment opportunities which contributed to her organizational skills and charitable lifestyle. She was especially proud of her store in Toledo, Gloria's Olde Tyme Shoppe, where she received special recognition from the Hallmark Company for designing a special "bow." She had also received the Governor's Leadership Award and the Governor's Volunteer Award for her selfless volunteer activities. Gloria and her sisters were instrumental in bringing the Kidney Dialysis Unit to Marshalltown.
She is survived by her two children, Dan (Sally St. George) Wulff, Calgary, Canada and Joy (Rod) Thorson, Cedar Falls, IA , 3 grandchildren, Nathan (Trisha) Wulff, Andrea (Justin) Gibbs and Jessica (Scott) Siemens, 4 step-children, Gary (Celia) Ohrt, Marinette, WI, Darrell (Jan) Ohrt, Bloomington, MN, Diana (Steve) Posusta, Marshalltown, IA and Tom Ohrt, Iowa City, 5 great-grandchildren and 10 step-grandchildren. She leaves one sister, Twyla Wagaman, many nieces and nephews and her friends and neighbors whom she loved as her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, four brothers (Ward, Glen, Lowell and Dwight Appelgate) and two sisters (Darlene Pagel and Wanda Berhow-Phipps).
