One of these articles was the first mention of Lincoln for President.

"Judge Andrew Akin, founder of Guilford, this county, and builder of the Guilford grist mill, died at the home of his son , H.C. Akin, in Omaha, Neb., April 14, 1898, aged 88 years. He is remembered by all the old settlers as a prominent citizen in the early history of the county. The Fredoina Citizen says he wrote the first editorial for that paper when it was started, twenty-eight years ago this month, and that the republican party of this county was organized under a tree near his house on the Verdigris, thirty years ago. Another The Ottawa Daily Republic ( Ottawa, KS ) Fri. Apr 15, 1898 p. 1 Andrew Akin a pioneer of Kansas and once register of the land office at Topeka , died at Omaha, Neb., aged 88. Mr. Akin was very prominent in the early political history of Kansas , being one of the anti-slvery leaders."
